What food should I feed my rescue dog?
Feed your dog high quality food. You can choose between a raw diet, freeze dried dog food, or a mix of all of the above. A good diet will prolong your dog’s life.
Is it normal for rescue dogs to not eat?
A dog may not eat for the first couple of days after moving in. They need time to get used to their new surroundings. Lack of appetite can be caused by many factors, such as environmental change, stress, depression, illness, and food allergy.
How much should you feed a rescue dog?
Feed 25% of their resting energy requirement for the first 24 hours. To calculate a dog’s RER, take their weight and divide by 30 to get 70. The number of k/cals they should be eating is your answer.
Why are rescue dogs always hungry?
If your dog is a rescue, they may have been deprived of food in the past, leading to them needing to beg for food in order to stay alive. It is possible for well-fed, pampered pups to learn that begging for food can lead to treats.
